Three Top Spanish Destinations

Did you know that Spain is one of the world's most popular holiday destinations?  If you've ever walked along one of the glorious, sun-drenched beaches of Estepona, or gazed upon the luxurious glass architecture in The Parque del Buen Retiro in Madrid, then you will certainly know why.  Also it will come as no surprise to you that in 2007 visitors to Spain soared to record breaking new levels and that in 2008 it may be even more popular. With companies like Travelzoo now offering cheap flights to Spain to this region there’s never been a better time to go.

Here are three of the most popular destinations:

Mallorca

If you are simply looking for great beaches then you could certainly consider one of the most popular holiday destinations in the whole of Spain - Mallorca. Contrary to popular opinion Mallorca isn't just about the sun, beaches and the nightlife: the main capital Palma is steeped in history and there is a spectacular Gothic Cathedral right in the centre. There are also a number of grand mansions throughout the city that are well worth taking a look at.

Costa Calida

If you prefer something a little quieter, then it may be worth considering a visit to the relatively undiscovered region of Spain called Costa Calida. Costa Calida literally means 'warm cost' and it has one of the milder climates in Spain. However, this doesn't mean that it is cold, and it is perhaps one of the best places to visit for those who don't want to get too sunburnt. Due to the climate this is also one of the most beautiful regions of Spain; not only does it have vast plains and dramatic mountains but it also has some of the best National Parks, with lush green forests that go on for as far as the eye can see, as well as some truly stunning beaches.  If you are considering a holiday in this region then you could get one of the luxury villas offered by a company such as Abercrombie and Kent and take some time to explore.

Cadiz

If it's a city break you’re after then it is certainly worth taking a look at something different, and visiting the ancient city of Cadiz.  Cadiz is apparently the oldest city in the whole of Europe, having been founded by Phoenician sailors around 3,000 years ago.  Due to its ancient origins it is, perhaps unsurprisingly, surrounded by archaeological remains. Many of these are now exhibited in the Plaza de Mina, the town's Archaeological Museum, including two rather impressive Phoenician Stone Sarcophagi.
