Five Things to Do When Booking a Holiday in Gibraltar

Gibraltar can make an excellent and affordable holiday destination with a taste of English culture on the continent and yet a unique atmosphere quite unlike anywhere else in Europe. To help take the stress out of your holiday planning, and to ensure that your holiday is a memorable as possible, here’s a step-by-step guide to booking your Gibraltar break.

Booking Flights

Flights to Gibraltar are fairly inexpensive and can be booked easily online.  For example EasyJet are currently offering flights from London Gatwick to Gibraltar for a bargain price of around £85. If you visit a site such as Monarch Airlines you can find many more cheap flights to many major European destinations including Gibraltar

Accommodation

One hotel worth considering is the Caleta Hotel, in Catalan Bay. This is considered one of the best hotels in the Mediterranean. Caleta Hotel has recently been refurbished and provides excellent accommodation that blends the old and new. This hotel offers ‘pamper’ packages, at £128 for the first night followed by £40 a night thereafter; for this price you get a room, dinner, and breakfast.  On top of this you also receive a pamper package offering a back massage, a facial, and the use of the gymnasium.  At the other end of the market is Ocean Heights, which is managed by Jade Travel.  This complex of studio apartments has all the mod cons you expect for just £30 per night. Where to Eat

One popular restaurant is the Biancas Restaurant which is on the Quayside of Marina Bay. This restaurant has a pleasant terrace and a good choice of vegetarian and children’s dishes. For something a little less formal you may consider the Barbary Ape. Named after the Island’s famous apes, this restaurant is located opposite the Queen’s Hotel and offers a full range of English classics from a full breakfast to scampi and chips.

Where to Visit

It’s practically essential on any visit to Gibraltar to take a cable car to the upper rock to take in the excellent views of North Africa and to see where the Atlantic and Mediterranean meet. From the very top to the very bottom – the 18th Century siege tunnels that run beneath the Island form an intertwined network that runs for around 32 miles, some of which are open to the public.

Travel Insurance

Whether you’re climbing the rock or lazing in the sunshine, it’s important to get the right travel insurance cover. Companies such as Go Travel provide a range of travel insurance policies to suit your needs – you can even cover yourself when playing golf or undertaking ‘dangerous’ sports such as scuba diving.
