The islands of the Bahamas, including Eleuthera, Cat Island and Long Island, remain mostly unaffected by major development, which have a unique and warm friendly feel. The more remote out-islands of San Salvador, Rum Cay, Acklins, Crooked & Mayaguana, which lie further eastward along the island chain, offer an even better get-a-way for those who want complete seclusion and relaxation, as these island gems lie well off the beaten path of most boaters and travelers.
The most comfortable and enjoyable time of year to visit the Bahamas is during late fall to early spring from the months of November to March, as the climate has very pleasant tropical feel (especially in comparison to the harsh frigid cold of the northeast united states). The waters are some of the most beautiful in the world, varying in all brilliant colors of blue and green which are so crystal clear and warmly inviting to be in. Fun water activities include out-standing diving and snorkeling, excellent fishing, great boating and sailing, and good surfing.
Surf in the Bahamas is most consistent along the eastern out-islands during the fall, winter and spring months, from October to April. Waves come from winter storms that head eastward off the United States into the Atlantic Ocean, which frequently generate good northerly swells that push into the Caribbean. The same waves that slam the coasts of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic also break along the outer reef passes of the islands, often with the same intensity and size. Surfing in the Bahamas out-islands of San Salvador, Rum Cay, Conception, Mayaguana, Samana, Crooked and Acklins, including the islands of Turks and Caicos, can be exceptionally good. However, you’ll need a well provision and good boat capable of navigating open ocean waters. Some breaks along the Bahamas out-island chain can also be considered world class set ups - so you will also need to know exactly where you’re going to surf these waves.
SURF QUEST ADVENTURES is a Surf-Boat Charter Adventure business that is dedicated to exploring undiscovered surf throughout the Bahamas. We can get you to some of the best breaks safely and with the conveniences that are otherwise only available from a shore based operation. In certain places, we'll even be able to anchor so close to the line-up that that you only have to jump in the water from the boat to paddle out to the waves. Accommodations are aboard a 57' world-cruising boat that was completely out-fitted in 2006/2007 to operate as a Surf Exploration vessel, which can comfortably sleep up to (5) charter quests. Our crew has been exploring and surfing undiscovered breaks throughout the islands of the Bahamas for most of their lives, who have a true zeal for adventure and passion for being at sea. They know exactly what their doing aboard a boat and are exceptionally good surfers. Their goal is to welcome you aboard and give you an fun surfing adventure - so you can surf great waves without the crowds.

The island of Eleuthera offers some of the most consistent and powerful surf in the Bahamas. Point breaks, reef breaks and beach breaks, Eleuthera has it all. The island is surrounded by deep Atlantic Ocean on its North and East sides, and that is where the best breaks are located. North coast breaks work on anything from N through NE, East coast breaks on anything from N to SE, predominantly lefts but there are some rights. A 3000-foot drop in the ocean floor, one mile offshore, acts as a swell magnet that can channel in swells from as far away as Africa and the Azores.
The best season for surf is October through April for size and consistency. When strong cold fronts go off the east coast of the US, winds typically switch offshore and the surf gets GOOD! From May through July, it's typically small, and then the months of August, September and October bring the possibility of hurricane surf in warm, clear water.
Bahamas Out-Island Adventures is the first company to offer 1 day, 2 day/1night, 3 day/2 night and 4 day/3 night guided camping surfaris, seeking out and surfing the best waves on the island every day. Our surf guides know where all the best breaks are and under what swell, tide and wind conditions they work best. More often than not we have these breaks all to ourselves. At night we camp by firelight under the stars and sleep in comfortable tents listening to the surf roll in. All our meals are healthy, interesting and delicious! When the surf is flat or for a change of pace, we go snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, or exploring caves, blue holes and beautiful beaches. |
